Amorous duets, arias, and instrumental works mix freely on this tribute to the Baroque ear’s finest musical dramatist. A truly cosmopolitan figure, George Frederic Handel combined a sturdy German musical heritage with sophisticated Italian training, in works that remain emblematic of his adopted English home.
Promising young singers who hail from Houston’s top institutions will charm and delight you with excerpts from familiar L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato and the less often heard Italian cantata Cecilia, volgi un sguardo. Rounding out the program are two instrumental features that highlight Handel’s pioneering work in the new genre of the concerto, featuring oboist Kathryn Montoya.
